To coincide with Disney’s Let’s Go Week – seven days packed with activities and content available for families to keep in shape and live a healthy lifestyle – we caught up with Sophie Simnett of The Lodge, who told us all about the various sporting activities she’s been getting up to, as well as what we can expect from season two of The Lodge and what she gets up to in her downtime.
FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN THE LODGE, WHAT’S THE STORY WITH SKYE?
“Skye travels from her city life to the countryside after the passing of her mother, to start working at her family’s country lodge. When she gets there, she meets loads of new friends, and she gets caught in a love triangle – she gets herself into a lot of situations. You see her navigate her way through those common teenage issues all whilst running a lodge at 15 and singing about it at the same time!”
HOW DOES HER CHARACTER DEVELOP IN THE SECOND SEASON?
“Skye has to do a lot of growing up to do in this season especially with the situation she finds herself in – it’s going to be interesting to see how people react to it. She’s still fighting for the Lodge as we saw from the end of season one, so there’s a lot of escalation there. She definitely matures emotionally but I feel like she’s also a bit more fun.”
IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE A LOT OF LAUGHS ON SET
“Yeah definitely! It’s very hard not to laugh a lot of the time – especially when we’re trying to do scenes. We do keep it professional, but when we’re off set we have a lot of fun. “
WHAT DO YOU GUYS LIKE TO DO IN YOUR DOWNTIME?
“We all tend to go to the cinema, and we have started going bowling. It’s suddenly got really competitive, there’s a chart!”
THE BACKDROP FOR THE SHOW IS STUNNING! WHAT’S IT LIKE WORKING ON LOCATION IN NORTHERN IRELAND?
“It’s amazing – we’re lucky enough that we don’t have to jump around to different locations. All the countryside scenes are shot around the Lodge which is amazing. Living in a city and coming here for four months is so nice.”
WHAT SPORTING ACTIVITIES DID YOU TAKE PART IN FOR LET’S GO WEEK? WHICH WAS YOUR FAVOURITE?
” It would be between rock climbing and biking I think, I love climbing but with biking I love how it’s more of a team thing! It was so fun to learn how to bike with the boys. I liked getting muddy and cold! I love team sports and I grew up playing lacrosse”
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO SNACK AFTER A WORKOUT?
” I love dried mango! I’m your go-to girl if you’re hungry, I’ll always make some dried mango appear. I love fruit and I like prepping my food the night before, so I can look forward to it the next day. “
WE LOVE YOUR INSTAGRAM! ANY TIPS ON TAKING THE PERFECT SELFIE?
” Instagram represents you and I tend to post pictures that are genuinely candid. So ones taken by your friends rather than when you’re on your own. You have to have those good friends to take pictures for you when you’re out and about! I think it’s important to make your profile an accurate representation of you as a person, especially for people that don’t know you.”
WE LOVED YOUR SHOOT FOR WONDERLAND TOO, WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING ON THE COVER?
“It was so much fun working with them! The shoot was amazing and I got to wear all the brands I loved. It was the perfect day. They had loads of props on set too and there was this massive cat head and I started messing around and putting the cat head on! It’s just the kind of magazine I read so it was perfect.”
YOU’VE MENTIONED YOUR LOVE OF FASHION. WHAT WILL YOU BE WEARING THIS SUMMER?
“I really like the retro, 60s look at the moment. I’m so excited to put the jeans away and try headscarves – I love to have my hair up all the time. I once wore a tape measure in my hair! I think it’s really fun to experiment with accessories. I usually wear black all the time, so my aim is to wear more colour, and I also LOVE trainers, so I want to add colour to those.”
Disney’s Let’s Go Week starts today and The Lodge Season Two will be returning to Disney Channel and DisneyLife in June.
