I’ve been nominated for an award! What.is.life?

Back in March I wrote about the mind-boggling fact that I’d been featured in Blogosphere Magazine’s Spotlight series, something I felt super honoured to be a part of (you can read about it all here) and this week I found out I’ve been nominated for the ‘Beauty Influencer of the Year’ category in the Blogosphere Awards… how bloody swell is that?!

I’ve been questioning my blog and content in general A LOT of late. I hate to go on about Instagram, but I’ve seen my stats dwindling and it’s led me to do a whole load of research into how to optimise my account. One of the biggest and most repeated suggestions was ‘find your niche’. I didn’t really have a niche, I mean, what even is a niche? But anyway, from that moment on I decided that at least my Instagram account would be dedicated to beauty – and that’s what I did.
I became engrossed in my makeup looks, churning out one face after another and although I’ve been loving it, I felt like my aesthetic with my layout wasn’t there, and I was definitely not as ‘cool’ or ‘glam’ as some of my peers. Last weekend I even had plans to completely change my Insta, and I’d really been doubting whether I’m good enough to focus on beauty; but this nomination basically changed everything!
As bloggers, there’s nothing quite like recognition or validation, and although it’s not something we should be defined by, I feel like it’s a real boost when you’re doubting yourself. I have some stiff competition and some really amazing people in my category, but regardless, to be considered has made me feel like a million bucks.
It’s an alien feeling to be up for an award as for years I’ve been more of an onlooker to these things, so I want to say to those who might feel a little put out at not being nominated – you matter too! Don’t let anything define you, or make you feel like you haven’t achieved amazing things. There are so many people in the online world I admire; who are killing it with collabs, paid-for promotions and quality content – you’re all amazing!
Thank you so much for considering me Blogosphere Magazine!
