Like drinking, golf and… well, fun? then Junkyard Golf is a great option if you’re in the Shoreditch area. I popped down this month to break down what you can expect from the venue and its minigolf courses.
Although Junkyard Golf is, well, a minigolf location, what I really liked about it was it’s bar vibe, especially the front section of the venue. I’ve been to a few minigolf locations in the city and this one had by far the most relaxed atmosphere, with no pressure to head in and play straight away. When I visited, Nick Grimshaw and Artful Dodger were DJing too, so check out their schedule!
The venue is situated in Shoreditch on Worship Street, with Shoreditch High Street and Old Street really nearby if you’re journeying via tube.
There are four small courses here, with lots of bars and space to chill out in between, so don’t expect there to be a formal atmosphere (which for me was great). While serious minigolfers may see this as a disadvantage, I preferred a more relaxed vibe.
The four courses are called Pablo, Gary, Bozo and Dirk, each with its own theme from tropical jungle to scrapyard, to carnival.
Now onto the main event… the drinks! OH-EM-GEE these drinks were not only Instagrammable, but super tasty too. Each cocktail was colourful, carnival-like, and stacked full of candy. A dream, basically. I tried ‘Porn in the USA’, a vanilla vodka, pineapple and passion fruit combo, along with ‘Got Gum Hun’, a rum, pineapple and coconut creation. To sweeten the deal, a selection of the cocktails are just £5 from Sunday to Wednesday too!
If cocktails aren’t your thing, they do have a number of mocktails, shots and slushies.
The Food and Extras
The bunker bar serves up some fairground-style food, with hot dogs and nachos, and if you’re looking for a snack, popcorn and pick’n’mix is also on offer.
In terms of extras, the venue also has themed nights depending on seasons, and when I visited there was also a fortune teller!
