A Guide to Tarot Reading: My Review

I’ve always been so interested in horoscopes and Tarot, so when I was approached by Cosmopolitan’s resident tarot expert Kerry Ward, I couldn’t wait to have a reading and record my experiences!

This might sound a little weird, but with Halloween approaching and the nights longer and darker, I always feel like this is a particularly magical time of year- and the perfect time to have a tarot reading!

For those of you not sure what Tarot is, I’ll give you a quick rundown.  Tarot cards consist of a deck of up to 78 cards, each having their own meaning. Just like a normal deck of cards, there are four suits, however tarot has- cups, pentacles, swords and wands, with 22 major arcana cards and 56 minor arcana cards across those four suits. These cards reflect key archetypes or spiritual lessons in our lives.

To start the reading, Kerry just needed an element of my life that I wanted to focus on, and for me it was starting my new full time job (which is next Monday, eee!) I really wanted to find out a little bit about what might be in store for me. If I’m honest, I’ve never had an online reading before and didn’t know what to expect, but boy was I impressed with the detail, presentation and overall experience I had with Kerry.

Of the seven page reading she sent me, the first focused on me as a Scorpio woman, and I love how it covered a number of aspects of my life, from love to thoughts on life and my personality. I have to say the most resonating part was this line “Contempt for weakness. Has a suspicious nature”- THIS IS SO ME. I can’t stand to be lazy or in any way seem substandard, and suspicion is like my favourite feeling- haha! Also this one was too accurate “Curious, particularly about the darker underbelly of life”- I love all things horror, and I am fascinated by crime and serial killers…

Next I was shown my card spread, and the sheet after explained it all really extensively. It told me a lot that focused on my new role and what might be awaiting me! From the people, to how I’ll feel after I’ve adjusted to it all- it was so interesting and I can’t wait to see how my next few months pans out.

The last section was a forecast for the rest of the year, which was awesome and totally unexpected! From need-to-know info, to relationships and things to watch out for in the next couple of months, this was the perfect end to such a good reading!

Just a wee afterword to sceptics- While I can understand those of you who are a little sceptical about readings like this (and I’m not trying to convert you), what I will say is this. Even if you don’t 100% ‘believe’ in astrological readings, I do think having a reading can be really therapeutic and make you think about how you might approach future situations.

Have you had a tarot reading before?
* Although Kerry’s reading was complimentary, all opinions are of course my own.
