I know, I know, how can I be wishing summer away? Well I am- I’m sorry. If you follow me, you’ll know I’m an annoying promoter of Halloween all year round, but honestly, there’s nothing better than autumn for me. From the falling leaves, to the ripening of the crops, to the air feeling a whole lot fresher, here are the reasons why I’m ready for the new season.

I’M NOT REALLY A TANNER
I’m going to be honest with you, I’m pale and proud! I’ve always been partial to the odd freckle, but honestly there’s nothing I dislike more than spending prolonged periods in the sun- it’s just so uncomfortable. I don’t tan, so I’ve never seen the point in lying on a beach- you’ll most likely find me in a shaded bar nearby sipping on Sangria and playing cards!

THE DARKER NIGHTS ARE SO COSY
Ah, a dreamy fire, copious blankets and a good movie to snuggle up with- is there really anything more cosy? Sometimes when I want to watch a movie in summer I feel guilty, like I should be out enjoying the fresh air while the good weather is here! Autumn is the perfect excuse for film marathons, fresh Netflix addictions and endless popcorn to go with it.

SAY GOODBYE TO SWEAT
Rushing to the tube, frying in non-air conditioned buildings- the sweat is real in summer and it makes the working day so uncomfortable. I seriously can’t wait for more manageable weather!

I JUST WANNA LIGHT CANDLES
I love me a chunky, gothic candle, but lighting them in summer seems a little superfluous. Come September 1st, I’ll be dusting them off and gathering them around my Halloween decorations haha!
I YEARN FOR AUTUMN LAYERING
Honestly I really do. Summer fashion has always been a toughy for me. I’ve never been very comfortable with showing my bare legs in the warmer months, and the cooler autumn weather allows for layering and whole lot more choice when it comes to fashion. If you know me, you’ll know I love a good layer!
AND DARK CLOTHING
I’m a big fan of colour, but when I want the choice to wear a darker colour, summer is so limiting- I chose my outfit for this post to portray a kind of reluctant summer goth!
I MISS PUMPKINS
I’ve always loved the idea of harvest time- gathering the crops, cutting the grain etc. The gathering popularity of Halloween in the UK has been taken from it’s success in the US, where pumpkins became associated with the celebration. Fun little fact for ya, the Irish used to carve turnips as Jack o’ lanterns, but when they moved to America they were unable to grow them. Pumpkins were instead in abundance so they were used instead and hence the tradition was born!
Oh ma gaaaad! I love dressing up anyway, but Halloween is honestly the embodiment of all the things I love. Costumes, horror and parties. Plus, it’s my birthday on 26th October so is it weird to say I’m blessed with being born so close to the celebration? I don’t know, I’m weird. My grandma was born on Halloween itself, and we both share the same names (Maria Eva)- I unfortunately never knew her, but I’ve heard she was very superstitious just like me- eep!
AND THOSE LEAVES…
This wee last point goes without saying, but my God how beautiful are the leaves in autumn? Fiery ginger to spiced chocolate, those oranges and browns are breathtaking.
Are you more of a summer, or an autumn person?
